I'm
curious how well the SRTM 3 arc second data holds up. What's the
largest scale map you've dared to offset print using the data for
shaded relief? I'm thinking of using the data for Australia (about 35?
to 40? south) but am not sure yet at what scale my map should be.
Any experiences you can share? Thanks.

I've
just used it for an area in the Caribbean, mapping an island at
1:50.000. I think it's definately not suited for that, it makes it look
really fuzzy. Client loved it though... It probabely depends on what
other information you are showing on top of it.

really depends on the terrain. I've seen maps done with it at 1:100,000
that looked fine and have made maps with it at 1:150,000 and 1:200,000
but had to use Russian data to patch holes in it.
