"Hello!
My
name is Liz. I am just starting out in cartography and I am so glad I
found this site. Now I will have lots of friendly people to answer my
questions!
I work as a land surveying CAD technician, so I am
making maps every day, but I want to expand my horizons. I want to make
beautiful, artistic, functional and interesting maps. I am mainly
interested in making maps that display roads, water bodies, relief,
cultural features, dining, lodging, campgrounds, etc. In other words,
maps that would be useful to both tourists and residents of the area.
I'd like the maps to encompass an area the size of an average county. I
can envision doing a whole series of them if the first one proves
successful.
But I am getting ahead of myself! Since I work full
time, cartography training will have to be an evening and weekend
activity. I think it could probably take 3-5 years before I can produce
maps that are good enough to sell. I can assure you that I will have
lots of questions! Look for me in the ""Cartographic Design"" and
""General Cartography"" sections - thats where I'll do most of my
posting. "
