I was just wondering what other alternatives are out there for designing multi-zoom level web maps (especially base maps) besides Tilemill and cartodb, what experiences that you've had with them, how they compare with each other.

In what instances and use cases did you use one over the other?

I'd highly prefer ones that were open-source and support linux.

Also tagged with one or more of these keywords: tilemill, cartodb
