I am a graphic designer who does maps on a Mac with CS6 Adobe Illustrator.

I start with a file provided by a cartographer which has a number of layers:

“Painted Relief background, rivers, lakes, highways, etc.”

Then I add “bike trails, parks, etc.”

The cartographer is no longer available, and I dont know what software to use to create the

“Painted Relief background, rivers, lakes, highways, etc.”

(which wont take me years to learn)?

Or is there anybody out there that can do this work for me? For pay of course.

Dear Jim,

The example you gave looks like it's actually shaded relief, and you should be able to create maps like it yourself.  The best place to start researching this topic is Tom Patterson's website:

Like you, Tom Patterson is a Mac enthusiast.  If you think I didn't understand your situation correctly, please provide more details on the problem.
