Hi,

I am trying to get data out of Wikimapia using the wikimapia api webpage without the results I want.

Is there a webpage I could download ready-made data files (shp or something else) like there are some places to do that for openstreetmap data?

Thanks in advance for any help

I can download wikimapia image as geo-rectified image file. But ready made shp file, I don't have any idea...

Hi Souvik

Can you share on Cartotalk how to get a Geotif from Wikimapia? It will be interesting to somehow use this data even as an image in GIS.

Thanks

Anu

I find geofabrik.de a good way to get OpenStreetMap data, though I'm not sure it includes all layers.

Hi Anu

Actually I  download the cache to a specific folder and find the specific script by which all the tiles are stitched at the webpage with coordinate. Then I have a custom Program which is able to read that cache in read only mode and also be able to export the image to geotif format. It is just a run-time stitching and exporting program.

If you need any geotif image you can mail me (I think you have my mail ID).

Thanks

Souvik

The Weogeo Market is my favorite place to download OSM data...

It's free and you can select the area you want and it comes in fgdb, shp, ...

It takes a couple of minutes for the extraction and you receive a link when your data is ready
