Hi,
I'm in the UK and my company is producing a holiday brochure.
We
want to include a world map with detailed topography, and then smaller
maps for different areas including, the mediteranean, the red sea, the
indian ocean and the caribbean. We will then need further maps for
destinations within these regions (probably 4 for each). Again, they
need to be well detailed.
Does anyone know how I go about finding someone to draw these, or alternatively, somewhere I could buy these sorts of maps?
i have no knowledge whatsoever on this, so any advice would be appreciated!
regards,
blackhole

You've
probably come to the right place as there are plenty of freelance
cartographers that drop by for a visit here that would be happy to take
a project like this on (including myself). Not sure how this is usually
handled but you could place the details of the job in one of the job
categories (or here) and ask people to submit estimates to complete the
job and go from there.

"There's a list of freelance cartographers here that you can contact. The Society of Cartograhers also runs an email list, and you could post details of your request and invite interested parties to contact you.
There are also cartographic companies who you might want to contact, like George Philips or Bartholomew, who may already have the sort of maps you want available.
Hope this helps.
Greg. "

Details
such as sizing of maps, number of colours used to print the maps, file
format, resolution, what information you want to include on the maps,
timelines, a particular design style you might be looking for (if you
have one in mind), map extents(what part of the globe the map will
cover), etc. Hope this helps. "

"Jumping in with my moderator hat on...
First of all, there is a special category in the Resources section for custom cartographic companies here. This was made especially for this purpose.
(note:
if you are a custom cartographic company and want to be listed there,
just go ahead and add a resource, then PM me or one of the other
moderators to 'unlock' it)
Now... we've talked about it in the
past but there never was any action taken on it... Aside from the Job
opportunities and resume areas, I would also like to see a general
business opportunities area, I think only Nick has the power to make
new forums though.
Any way, feel free to post the details of
your project here, I'm sure there are many people, myself included, who
would want to make you an offer.
Just as a general 'rule', any offers and price quotes should be made via either private email or a PM. "
