Shameless plog!

 

After talking to a virtual friend (@Dragons8mycat), I wrote an "How To" to add a custom map, here created with Mapbox, as a background in QGIS­.

It's very useful if you often use the same basemap in QGIS.

You could try running them through TileStache then take them with you offline!

Nice! I've been looking to try TileStache for a while now. I would like to create a basemap of our entire territory and I calculated that it would create about 1,000,000 tiles. The size would be way to big for almost every online mapping tools (except hosting them on Amazon), so I could use a local copy.
