I would like to create maps of rivers and streams for my own fishing.  Google Earth for example shows streams but does not name them.  Is there an app that will show labeled streams?   I would like to be able to mark spots of interest, make marginal notes etc and be able to print.

Advice appreciated

The simplest approach is probably looking at existing topos in something like

If you want to share your knowledge with the world, you can edit the streams shown in OpenStreetMap to add the names.

As far as making marginal notes, you can write on your printout, or take a screenshot and place that in your favorite page layout program.

You could grab the topos then open them in smartphone app (Adobe Reader) and add in lines or other comments as you wished.
