A new software is developed by the university of applied science of the arts berne, switzerland. There's an abstact below.
Creating world maps by means of map projection is determined
by certain rules. These are also responsible for deciding
which geographical region is to be displayed in the centre
of the image. In conventional world maps, the horizontal centre
of the image is usually oriented on the great circle of the equator.
The relation between the topic of the map and the centre of
the image is thus ignored.
Here we come to certain point(s) of view. This project pursues
the aesthetic question as to whether, by means of a targeted
approach, bound by specific parameters, one might generate
unconventional world maps that can be contextualized by a
socially relevant choice of topic for each map.
This project is developing a software program that allows us to
combine both map graphics and parameters of descriptive
geometry in a controlled, explorative process in order to generate
the desired world maps.
