Cartotalk downtime

Just a quick message to let you all know we'll be taking Cartotalk down over the weekend to run an update of the board software and introduce the new design. So this Saturday and Sunday you may not be able to access Cartotalk, but we should be back online on Monday at the latest. Your login details will remain the same (but you may need to log in again after the upgrade).

Ok, cool - thanks!
In case anyone else have the same problem - I had "minimum font-size" set in my Firefox options, that caused the formatting on the site to show up a bit funny.

Just a quick note: if anybody sees any errors or weird glitches please let us know, including what browser and OS you are using.

I'm seeing 2 different issues depending on web browser.
1. problem with viewing new posts
to repro:
- log in to site
- click View New Content
- in New content list click on go to first unread post icon to the left of a topic
- gets "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error
using IE 9 on Windows 7
2. On Chrome Version 23.0.1271.97 m it has me logged in after I close the browser and then come back to the site even though I logged out previously
but the go to first unread post icon works
I guess it's a case of choose your bug
I think these are general problems with the new board software. I'm seen similar problems on other computers and other boards that recently upgraded. Hopefully there will be patches or fixes soon from whoever produces the software for these boards. I don't know if there is anything that can be done from the user side of things.

Thanks Hans for the efforts. I do prefer the old format pimarily as most of the forum topics fit into a single view, without scrolling. Like anything, the new look will require some getting used to. Hope people stick around and keep the forum vibrant.

I probably have all the terminology wrong. I do like the overall look of the website and forums.
Is there a quick way from the front page to get to the subforum lists? I use that view in preference to "show new content" to see the most recent posts. That is, I want to look at the home pages for "General", "Discussions", etc. They're not clickable on the home page, but if you go to an individual forum like GIS, you can use the 'Return to Discussions' button at the top of the page to get to: http://www.cartotalk...hp?showforum=21
Is there a way to make the headings on the home page into links?
Thanks!

You're probably looking at the tiled view, if you switch to the list view you can access subforums right away.
You can switch by locating your floaty bar, probably at the bottom of the screen. There's two buttons on the far right:

0 downloads
The rightmost one switches to tile view, the one to its left switches to list view. This selection will be remembered across sessions (even on different machines)

Interesting. On IE 9 those last two buttons for tile view/list view are not there. The floaty bar stops at the advanced search button. The view buttons are there on Chrome. Just a tip for anyone who doesn't see the view buttons.
Correction: the view buttons show some of the time. Looks like it depends on where you are in the forum. If I'm looking at a specific topic the view buttons aren't showing. If I'm looking at the main page of the forum they are. I didn't realize they're contextual.

Thanks, Hans and Dave! I didn't see the buttons either when viewing this thread. I'll go and change my settings now...

I have been away for a bit and just have just seen the new design. It's lovely! Great job, Hans!
