Hello everyone!

I have a shapefile with GPS data, representing clusters of a national survey. When I open the shp file in ArcMap, each cluster is represented by a point. Each cluster has an ID number (I can see them in a list when I open the dbf file in excel). But I don´t know how to open it in ArcMap and connect the cluster ID to the points on my map. I tried to import the dbf into ArcMap using join and relate, but the dbf file does not appear. Only shp files appear.

Does anyone know how to go about it?

I actually realized how to do it. I simply chose to display labels...

If the .dbf accompanies the .shp file and has the same name it should simply appear as the table of attributes in ArcGIS (right click on the layer name and choose "open attribute table").

If the .dbf is a separate file with extra attribute info you need to first verify that both the .shp and the .dbf have a common id field and that it is of the same type (number or text). You should be able to do a table join between the two but you may need to add the dbf to the map as a table first. You can also open the dbf in excel and save as a 97-2003 .xls file then use that file to join to the .shp.
