Say I have a list of 20 items in a spreadsheet or text file. Can anyone think of a clever way to get them into Illustrator or FreeHand or InDesign as 20 separate text blocks? Other than 20 cut-and-pastes, of course.

When I just select the cells in Excel, Copy and then Paste into Illustrator (CS6), the cells come into Illustrator as a masked, grouped item. If you Ungroup, then Release Clipping Masks, you'll have a set of individual text strings. Select one of them, then Select Same Fill & Stroke, then Select Inverse and Delete, and you'll be left with the 20 text items as individual pieces of Point Text.

Dennis - John Wundes has a handy script that divides a multi-line text box into separate frames - see the script Divide TextFrame - available for download from http://www.wundes.com/JS4AI/
