Anyone know of a good source of GIS data for Africa, specifically Kenya and Uganda?
I'm looking for roads, waterbodies, communities, villages.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you,
Matt

There are of course global datasets - you might want to look into VMAP for instance.
Also - have you seen this:

Interesting, I didn't know about Global Map, and I have worked with these things for so long. I wonder how it compares to VMAP0 (1:1 mill) and VMAP1 (1:250k) for the natural things. I just saw there is apparently a VMAP2 now as well, has anyone looked at that?

Hi frax,
have you actually found a download link for VMAP2? I never found any.

Somebody from the USGS, involved with the National Atlas, pointed it out to me after my talk at NACIS, where I lamented the lack of any good data (with global coverage) that sits in between OpenStreetMap and 10m Natural Earth Vector in terms of level of detail.

Hi Matt,
I know another source of data which is actually data gathered from other sources, but maybe this will give you some ideas. They used to have data about utilities (pipes, electric network...), but it was removed.
