This was announced at the NACIS Annual Business Meeting, but it's probably a good idea to mention here.
NACIS is instituting a new award for imaginative cartography, named after the central character in Barry Lopez's short story, "The Mappist." The deadline for entries is November 18 (fast approaching!). Please take a look at the outline description of the award at the NACIS site, and consider making a nomination! As we noted in the meeting, you do not need to feel daunted by the criteria—submit what you can as part of your nomination.
Thanks!
-Nat Case, Sam Peppple and Tim Stallman, the award committee for this year.
