GIS Analyst, Community Maps Program – Toronto (HO24-12)

Reporting to the Community Maps Production Manager, the GIS Analyst is part of a team of specialists responsible for the production of the Esri Canada Community Maps. Esri Canada's Community Maps Program is part of a world-wide Esri initiative where organizations can contribute their local geographic content to become part of a community map that Esri publishes and hosts on ArcGIS Online. Key responsibilities of the GIS Analyst are to acquire process and validate source data from participants, and build and generate map cache based on cartographic standards and workflow.

Working with other Analysts, the individual will have responsibilities in all phases of map production, generation, and quality control. In addition, the GIS Analyst may be required to participate in the development of technical marketing resources including presentations and demonstrations that showcase the Community Map.

GIS Analyst responsibilities include:

  • Build map products, generate map cache and perform quality control activities to ensure quality standards are satisfied
  • Maintain map descriptions on ArcGIS Online (www.arcgis.com)
  • Provide input to improve map production workflow as required
  • Develop and maintain map production workflow documentation
  • Localize Community Maps products for the Canadian market
  • Maintain technical proficiency with ArcGIS desktop and server technologies
  • Develop technical marketing resources including presentation materials, web-based applications, and demonstrations to showcase Community Maps and other Technology Strategy initiatives
  • Preparing and presenting seminars and demos at trade shows and user conferences
  • Supporting pre- and post-sales activities related to technical aspects of Esri products
  • Estimate production efforts and adhere to project schedules
Specific skill requirements:

  • 1+ years working with Esri Desktop and Server technology
  • Proven experience with ArcGIS Desktop and the geodatabase
  • Basic working knowledge of databases and SQL (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Working knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance methodologies
  • Experience using some of the following: C#, VB.NET, Python, JavaScript, Flex or Silverlight
  • Familiarity with using ArcGIS Online
  • University degree in computer science, engineering, geography (GIS) or equivalent education and experience
