Hello. My name is Chris. I'm very new to the GIS field and looking to break into a graduate program down the road. I came here looking for any information that could help me understand more about what paths may lie infront of me if I pursue this field.

About my background. I finished my undergraduate degree in Political Science with a strong emphasis on international relations. I've always been attracted to geography and maps but was never certain how to use this interest and knowledge. Much of my interest lies with geopolitical analysis and homeland security, maybe even urban planning.

The only GIS background I have was an undergraduate cartography course and that was awhile ago so I'm also looking at online certificate programs to help me learn the fundamentals behind the technology and hopefully transition into a Grad program.
