I have to convert a format I haven't converted before into a shapefile. The format in my folder has files with the following extensions: .gdbtable, .gdbtablex, .spx, .gdbindexes.

I tried to open it in arccatalog, couldnt see any of the files. I created a new geodatabase and put all of the files in the folder, was able to open the files and put them in arcmap. but some of them are blank. ANy idea of why this would be?
It's probable that the original gdb was copied or moved form outside ArcCatalog at some point. Doing this can result in a copy that is missing some of the necessary gdb files Arc places in the folder. Creating a new empty gdb created that directory or prefs file, but its not tied to the data you copied into it, so it works, but won't display the data.
This is why you never do anything to a gdb folder outside of ArcCatalog.
