Hello all, greetings from India

I have gotten into GIS after a break of about 3 years. I am familiar with arcgis and qgis although dont have any programming experience.

I love this site and have learned a lot, especially with respect to the dynamic mapping part (find this a bit confusing tho)..this seems really interesting and the examples of these maps I have seen have really impressed me.

I have a shapefile of polygons within india (states) that have information stored in attribute tables and styled using qgis. I would like to display this interactively as a flash map. This is just one shapefile. Is there an easy way to do this? I know about the arcgis to illustrator export and then into flash. Am still in the process of buying illustrator for the company, and am hoping to get the flash map creation done outside unless its a straightforward process to create.

Basically I would like to be able to pan and zoom the map, the polygons should be styled as in a style layer in qgis or arcgis and clicking on any polygon should bring up a pop up box displaying information in the attribute table.

Many thanks in advance!

If you're buying software for this purpose take a look at Avenza's MAPublisher, its an Illustrator GIS plugin that reads .shp files directly and has a FLash export option. For anyone who's not really a programmer its a great way to create dynamic maps.

Hi Sanjay,

If its ok to use 'out of the box' software, there is no need to convert the shapefile if you use StatPlanet Plus (http://www.statsilk....statplanet-plus), as it can load shapefiles directly (and turn them into interactive maps).

Otherwise, if you need to turn the map into a Flash map, you can use StatPlanet Plus together with PDF Creator to export the map as a vector-based PDF. For more details on this, see http://www.statsilk....q#vector-export
