benbakelaar - seems like you pulled off some quite cool work there -- I'd be curious to hear how you did that - care to share?

Just a quick update on the restoration project. Ben has managed to recover over 600 posts up to the day before the attack. I am working now to restore these posts to a test site, before putting them in the live site.
Ben has put a lot of effort into this and deserves a big thank you.

Thank you both, this site is only as good as the content we all contribute to it and it will be to our collective benefit to restore that content.
Good Luck with the next steps

frax, it basically boils down to these steps:
1. figure out where the page was cached (Google)
2. figure out how to access each thread
2. write a php script to grab all threads
3. write a text parser to grab each data field from the recovered html
one thing that worked in cartotalk's favor is that each thread is accessed by the following URL format:
http://www.cartotalk...hp?showtopic=ID
luckily, google counts each of those as a separate page!
php script: http://64.202.170.23...recovr1.php.txt

I am going to do the "Great Restoration" tonight. So the board will be offline for a few hours later while I backup and verify the data has been restored.

Nick, good luck and may the force be with you.
At this point, you have certainly logged more hours than me on this project
I hope all goes well.
