The 2012 Brisbane International GeoSpatial Forum, (BIGF), is taking place from July 8th to 11th, 2012. BIGF will be the first conference to be co-hosted by the International Map Trade Association (IMTA), the Mapping Sciences Institute, Australia (MSIA) and the Australian & New Zealand Map Society (ANZmaps). I would like to encourage all CartoTalk members to attend this very worthwhile event.
Some information about our hosts -
The IMTA is a voice and resource for individuals, companies, firms and institutions who are engaged directly or indirectly in the production and sale of maps, globes, travel guides, spatial information and related products and materials. It is the foremost worldwide organization of the mapping and geospatial industry. www.imtamaps.org
The MSIA welcomes people at all levels of professional expertise and knowledge in areas such as geospatial data acquisition, data manipulation and management, LIS/GIS analysis and spatial systems development, as well as those involved in mapping, cartography and other forms of data and information communication. www.mappingsciences.org.au
ANZMapS, the Australian and New Zealand Map Society, promotes all aspects of cartography to a wide range of potential users. ANZMapS was created from the merger in March 2009, of the Australian Map Circle (formed in 1973) and New Zealand Map Society (formed in 1977). It is dedicated to exploring and developing the world of maps. www.anzmaps.org
BIGF will be the first time these three organisations have come together and is sure to be a hi-light event for anyone involved in the spatial profession.
A meeting held during the conference that will be of particular interest to fellow CartoTalk members would be the Cartographers Forum. This forum is a well supported and attended event of the IMTA conferences allowing cartographers to share in a discussion on the role and status of cartography. It’s a great way to facilitate the transfer of new cartographic technology and knowledge.
The conference will include a number of presentations by leading spatial professionals and business leaders. A Business Connect Session, (Speed Dating for Business), will be a hi-light of this year’s event. Additional forums for retailers, publishers and for the government sector are also held. It is a great way to meet with industry leaders and network with peers of our profession. There will be a number of social engagements held during the conference.
For information about the conference or to become a member of the IMTA please see our website at www.imtamaps.org or contact the IMTA Asia Pacific Executive Director, Noleen Zander on +618 8357 1777 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
