The Illinois State Geological Survey is accepting applications for the position of Map Standards Coordinator. Please see the link below for the announcement, and forward it to others who are interested in the cartographic and GIS aspects of mapping.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement cartographic standards and procedures for the geologic mapping programs of the ISGS. Conduct research into framework base data necessary for geologic mapping applications; supervise processing and symbolization of base data for geologic mapping applications. Communicate information to geologists and GIS/graphics staff on base map availability, cartographic standards, procedure documentation, use of templates and style sets, and storage of GIS and graphics files. Meet with colleagues in order to develop project needs requirements. Train and supervise the work of students in geologic map production. Develop and maintain the ISGS's Geologic Map Data Model database. Supervise the preparation of comprehensive and detailed metadata for the Geologic Map Data Model. Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes by learning and applying new technology and software. Coordinate the formal ISGS review of geologic maps for scientific and cartographic content and standards. Attend, participate in, and give presentations relating to geologic mapping applications at meetings of professional organizations. Supervise the production of hardcopy geologic and derivative maps, cross sections, and other custom map products for publication sales. Prepare graphic and GIS files for distribution on the ISGS website.
