We are a design firm in Australia, and we need some maps!

STG: Surfing Guidebook Map Brief

Background
We are re-designing a guidebook for surfing in Australia.
Most of the Australian coastline is included, in varying levels of detail and scale.
Some roads are included. Examples of existing maps are available as PDF.
Existing book is layout is InDesign CS3.
Existing maps are pasted directly from Illustrator with no links (unforgivable!)
Existing maps have neither detail nor accuracy.

Objective
Create accurate, functional, easy to read, easy to navigate maps to be used by travellers touring the Australian coastline searching for surfing locations.

Description
1. There are 29 spreads with maps.
2. All new maps to be supplied as Illustrator file(s).
3. Body text will be added in InDesign, so these parts can be left blank
4. Maps need to allow for body text placement as seen on existing maps
5. Maps will not be to same scale.
6. New maps need to fit pages spreads at similar scale to existing maps.
7. Roads and relevant towns should be included, as well as the names of beaches, headlands, bays other major features.
8. Icons shown in existing maps will be added in InDesign (as linked graphics)

Raw Materials
1. PDF files of existing maps to base new work.
2. Illustrator file with layered details as base art.

Workflow
1. Give estimate for cost for entire job, based on materials supplied.
2. Create initial map for to define map visual style and information levels.
3. Progressively create and supply maps, either as a single or multiple illustrator file (layered).
4. Progress payments will be made as required.
