Hi everybody,

I'm trying to create a map. A really simple one. Basically, I just need to associate everycountry on the planet with a color.

Usa is blue,Canada is yellow, Mexico is blue, Guatemala is red, etc...

And I need to export that as a jpg or png file, in a big resolution.

Do you know any free tool that can do that really easily?

Also, I'm on a netbook, so I probably wont be able to use something like photoshop.

You can look at the stock photo websites, to see if you can find something that fits your needs.

My friend Evan Miller, a grad student here in Chicago, has created Magic Maps, an easy-to-use tool that I think would do exactly what you want very quickly from a spreadsheet:

You can also search the web for outline maps, which you can color in such programs as Illustrator or Photoshop.

I didnt really understand the thing about stock photos, as theses are maps that I want to create, not that are already made?

I tried indiemapper but it seems that my netbook is too slow for it unfortunatly

Magic maped really looked perfect, but it's a mac only soft and I have a pc... :/ (plus, it's not a free software)

However, I did find another online tool that seems to suit my needs : geocommons.com

I'm still struggling with it though. Maybe someone can help me here.

When I upload my CVS file with the list of countries, I tells me that there are about 14 mistakes in the files. It doesnt undersand a few country names. Among them "Belarus", "United States".

There was one wich was "Macedonia [SOMETHING THAT I FORGOT]" and I changed it to "Macedonia" and now it recognises it. But I cant seem to make it work for the other ones.

Is there an official list or something for this?
