Does anyone know what kinds of typeface National Geographic uses in their Trail Illustrated Map series? The typfaces for area names, creeks, etc. If no one knows, what alternatives would be better? Any assistance would be great!

Hi
The Trails Illustrated map products seem to vary in their fonts since some National Park products are quite old, with legacy fonts, whereas some newer products, like the state guide maps, have different/newer type fonts. Is there a particular Trails Illustrated map that you like?
You could contact them at http://www.natgeomaps.com/contact. Hope this helps.

Hi Mapfax,
I did try contacting National Geographic but no reply. As for a particular Trails Illustrated map....it would be Grand Teton National Park. Cannot nail down what typefaces are used in that map.

Have you tried What the Font?
OMG Hugo! That's an awesome link.
Thanks for posting - it made my day. I wonder if they sell t-shirts?

Dennis, thanks for the helpful response. Do you know what is a good typeface that closely replicates National Geographic's own proprietary font? I have been doing a bit of research but no luck.

I find WhatTheFont? to be absolutely garbage.
FWIW - my fanboy comment above pertained just to the name, I have no experience with its functionality.
