I'm trying to carve a whiteboard into the shapes of the continents so that I have a world map whiteboard which I can annotate things on. However my wall isn't so big so I would like Europe and North America to be more prominent since most of the developments in my field happen there (and South America to a lesser extent), but I don't want to sacrifice the iconic look of a general world map.
The Mercator projection is my preferred so far because of the larger Europe but Greenland takes up so much dead space. Does anyone know of a projection that satisfies that?

Hmm, all the projections that I can think of (and have access to in ArcGIS) will emphasize Greenland if you're also trying to emphasize NAmer and Europe. Possibly Loximuthal with a standard parallel (-40?) in the southern hemisphere or Bonne with a std parallel around +40 for more unusual shapes.
