Outstanding candidates are invited to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position at the Cartography and Geovisualization Group of the Department of Geosciences, Oregon State University. The postdoctoral researcher will work on visualization projects combining computer graphics, geovisualization and cartography. The candidate is expected to collaborate and manage one or more of our cartography and geovisualization research projects. Topics of interest are scale-adaptive web mapping, pseudo-realistic maps, automatic flow maps, georectification, multivariate representation of statistical surfaces, terrain visualization and generalization in 2D and 3D, and applications of new hardware, such as autostereoscopic displays, portable devices or motion sensing devices.

We offer this position in a growing team with excellent possibilities for research in a stimulating environment with international collaboration. Salary is commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for a one-year period with possible extension. Preferred start date is early 2012.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in geoinformatics, computer science, cartography, geographic information science or related fields with an emphasis on visualization. Demonstrated computer programming experience and proficiency with Geographical Information Systems are required. Preference is given to candidates with proven capabilities in computer graphics. The desire to work with a team in an interdisciplinary setting is also essential. Candidates are expected to contribute to teaching and grant acquisition, must be fluent in English and have good writing skills. We expect the commitment to publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals.
We welcome applications from international and national candidates with diverse cultural and ethnic perspectives. Applications from members of historically under-represented groups, including women and persons with disabilities, are encouraged.
