Problem with reference scale in ArcGIS
Posted 08 November 2011 - 11:34 AM
I'm making a map which has a symbol set for one scale (1:50000) but this time I want to use it in 1:75000. For this I use reference scale in ArcGIS and set to 1:50000. When I change the scale and toggle the "Scale symbols when a reference scale is set" some of the symbols change in size and some doesn't!!
It is so weird! The symbols originates from the same shape file and from same font.
In the image attached I have set some transparency so that you can see the size changes with those symbols that change in size. The ones that doesn't are the house symbols (black squares). What can I do? Anyone had similar problems?

Have you searched the ArcGIS forums for solutions to this? I wouldn't be surprised if this has surfaced there!
I have, found nada!

Otherwise, if the buildings are points, what kind of a) layer symbology is being used (e.g. unique values, representations, other?) and what kind of symbol is being used (e.g. simple marker, character marker, representation marker, other?)
If you provide this info, I can probably help you.

Are you sure the black squares are from the same font
This could happen where symbols from different fonts would cause problems because their default sizes are different.
If they are from the same font, you could try making the black squares larger to begin with.
At some point the same symbol in different layers, one with "Scale symbols when refence scale is set" ticked and one not ticked will be the same size.
Hope this helps
