Hi anyone who can help,

I am trying to join income data from census tracts using a ratio of the actual portions of each tract that fall within the buffers. Problem is I have over 500 buffers and many of them overlap. I can intersect and spatially join tract data to each buffer BUT the intersect splits the tracts with overlapping buffers resulting in a truckload of unwanted features that must be calculated in the ratio.
I know a better way exists I am just to green to find it.

I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do... but can you dissolve the buffers maybe?
