As an example of GIS web processing tools, we have developed a tool based on Open Source data, OGC standard and Ordnance Survey's OpenData to calculate hydrological catchments in the UK for any drain point:

Pretty nice interface, but I found its results a bit weird - when I click on a location I get large drainage area, which looked good, when I chose a point upstream of that point I would expect to see a smaller catchment within the original catchment area, but seemed to get drainage area going beyond the original catchment. Just tested one area in the east of Scotland, so don't know if it's a common occurence. the second attempt ended with a process failure. Still cool stuff though.
Current software used: ArcInfo 10.1 (Spatial and 3D Anaylst), Manifold 8.0 Ultimate x64, AutoCAD Civil/Map 3D 2011 x64.

The DTM is old and the cell size is 100 metre. For small tributaries and rivers, this might not be ideal.
