All I know that it is near Algiers - just off the coast, no further information available on the net, kind of searched all over including Geonames, Google, etc.
Anyone knows the location, lat/long or some old/new map to correctly identify the location.
Thanks.

I googled a couple minutes and came up with...
Blog posts,
http://casbah-algeri...ish-period.html (english)
http://casbah-algeri...t-espagnol.html (espanol)
http://casbah-algeri...casbah-top.html (english)
Is that the same Peñon?
If so, it mentions that the fortifications were destroyed at some point and now there stands a lighthouse and maybe two other towers so I focused on the lighthouse clue:

Googled maps.google.com "algiers lighthouse":

Thanks, even I found this blog but the light house does not have the co-ords. The Google co-ords for the lighthouse are in the hinterland whereas the Island was off the coast of Algiers, somewhere in the Alboran or Balearic or Mediterranean seas.Is that the same Peñon?

I wonder how far out to sea it was because one of those article states:
[b]"Christians were then enlisted to take charge with filling the channel separating the island from the continent. A Mole of 200 meters long, 25 meters wide and 4 meters high was built."[/i]
Does that put this specific Penon about 200 metres out to sea? Not sure what a "mole" is though...

A mole would be a sort of dam, it's most often used to indicate a dam sheltering a harbor. So based on that description I'd say Penon would indeed be 200 meters out to sea.

Quite likely, so just about 200m out to the sea. But from which point on Algiers coast, that is the question now.A mole would be a sort of dam, it's most often used to indicate a dam sheltering a harbor. So based on that description I'd say Penon would indeed be 200 meters out to sea.

Or..
This one... Distance seems a bit too short, but then again, a lot of development has obviously happened there in the past centuries. In addition to that, it has a lighthouse (Phare)

The second looks to be more like it. It has a light house and the Navy too. This one... Distance seems a bit too short, but then again, a lot of development has obviously happened there in the past centuries. In addition to that, it has a lighthouse (Phare)
