I guess its a little off topic, but I recently discovered a really fun activity called GEO caching. You need a GPS device to participate, but my Father and I had a great time "treasure hunting" up in northern california where this "sport" is really catching on. Its basically HIKING with geo co-ordinates as a destination, and people hide stuff for the next person to find. Usually no great treasure, but the hunt is really fun.
Of course a decent map helps a lot.

Geocaching is a great activity to encourage people of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy nature. The last time we went, here in Minnesota, my 6-year-old daughter got a pink flamingo stuffed animal with a message. It says it's been going from one geocache to another in the western U.S. for 15 years and eventually wants to end up in Portland, Maine! We're about to move to Spain, so I'm thinking of just mailing the poor flamingo to the Portland Parks and Rec....
