The crew, captain and ships are on their way!

Just finished with design, layout and reproduction.

Kevin-Paul,

This is a beautiful well designed map.
So no need to change anything.

But from a very subjective point of view I do have a few comments.

1. The ship symbols, I like the use of scale, but not so sure on the shape and color. I would tend to associate a brownish color to tall ship.
2. I like the bubbles, (e.g. Valberg tower) but I would consider making the outline a little darker,
3. Also not sure what the symbols within the bubbles mean.
4. The fountain like symbol on top of BREIAVTNET ????
5. Creating a uniform symbol set for any map can be hard (actually it is hard). Maybe a bit of room for improvement on that issue. E.g. why is the post office symbol bigger and red. Is it more important then the press and media center?

Yes, all valid points taken. Some under my control, some unfortunately not, but all valid and food for thought.

The logo/client dictates the blue ships



Bubbles outline, yes, have been tweaking for a while (symbols; legend on accompanying City Map)
Yes, 'Post Office' very very important for Crew & Captain; they all run to send Postcards home to Mum!
Palette took a few years; still working on symbols, as you say 'not an easy task'

Breiavatnet; the Municipality wanted to drain it and build a Car Park a few years back. The symbol tells them "Keep you're greedy hands off!"

I’ve designed some self-explanatory icons for the various Tall Ships maps.
Hope they fall in taste with some of you. Any improvements or advice as always very welcome.



Also, have been testing the maps on the Ipad and other similar sized mobile devices.
Here’s a photograph, I’ll let you decide for yourself if you think it looks useful.

The main aim here is swift access to the ‘List of Vessels’ and then to the ‘Locations’ around the (open wireless zone) harbour, all on a single, legible, aesthetic map covering the whole of the festival area.

We sincerely appreciate the feedback.
This is the first time in Stavanger, Norway that we’re testing the usefulness of our festival maps on an assortment of the larger mobile devices. You’ll understand how important your feedback is as we are still learning, and looking forward to seeing how many visitors, captain and crew members actually utilise our maps on Ipad and other devices during the four days of festival activity.

...just a quick hello to all who have posted feedback about the Tall Ships maps. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

First time test for Ipad and other similar devices being utilised around the harbour is looking good and a positive sign for further development in the coming years.

Reminds me of the Tall Ships in Quebec City (June 1984).

Based on your map the Tall ship in the lower right of the photo is the STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL.

Also, I send my thoughts to the Norwegian people regarding the tragedy in Oslo.

Your city of Quebec is beautiful and I have wonderful memories from my time as a marine engineer sailing with a Norwegian cruise company on the St. Lawrence seaway. The 450 years celebration 1534-1984 was a unique event that I will never forget.
