National Geographic Maps is looking for a Senior Cartographer (Job ID# 4734) for aspects of map production, proofing, and revision for the line of National Geographic commercial map products. Senior Cartographers are responsible for assembling map files, assigning line and color specifications, applying special graphic effects, color retouching, rendering shaded relief, proofing, executing editorial revisions, and final file preparation for a CTP pre-press workflow. Must have complete knowledge of cartographic design skills involving typography, map layout, and relief shading. Must have complete understanding of digital pre-press workflows. Senior Cartographers assist Manager of Cartography with the creation and implementation of project plans, schedules, and budgets. Must have the ability to develop training techniques and programs for cartography. Candidates for Senior Cartographer are considered experts in their field and must have reached the highest technical proficiency in their area of specialization. Bachelor's Degree in Cartography, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or a closely related field or equivalent training and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Minimum of 5 years of cartographic production experience.
