Converting to graphics

Hi. I am using Arc9.3. I have a grid in my database that I want to convert to graphics so it will only apprear in Layout View. Is this possible? I can convert it to graphics, but only in Data View. I need to be in Layout View only. Any help suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

How about cut/paste?

Go to layout view, focus the data frame and select the converted graphic, then cut, then unfocus the data frame and paste.
