Here is an extract from a general map of Europe I just made. It is produced in such a way that different countries can be emphasized with a coloured shaded relief in a quick and simple manner, from one project to another. This sample shows Italy, a region that has frequented with several maps on this site.

Looks like a good basemap or general reference map.
One thing though - the sea stands out almost as much as Italy, so it looks like the map is about Italy and the Mediterranean. The trick is how to either "push" the sea into the background and still keep it distinct from the rest of the land or bring Italy out more without obscuring labels and such.
Just my 2 cents

Another thing I see is that at first glance, cities have more importance than Countries because of color and Type.
If the intended thing is to remark cities, its ok. If its just a usual map of the zone, I would try to make Change colors and fonts to make cities have less importance than Country names.
Best regards,
Fernando

While you're at it, add Venice (Venezia). It has more people than Cagliari, which you show, and it's a major tourist attraction.

And "Lichtenstein" is correctly written "Liechtenstein".

I don't think the color of the cities in Italy are problematic, but the cities outside Italy (or other country of interest on another map) should use grey text and dots, not black. Knocking them back so they fall below the constant national name and border color would work.
The city names tend to drift away from the locations: Roma and Tirana are notable, but there are others as well. The Luxemburg label hovers between two dots.
Avoid placing the name so that it looks like a part of the text: ●Zargreb
Shouldn't Balearene get a (Spain)?

Hi agree with EOSGIS ----> cities have more importance than Countries because of color and Type. if that's altered a bit then it would be perfect.
Thanks

Hello,
For Switzerland :
Geneve seems to be written in French. In this case you must add an accent in the second "e", like this : Genève
For Bern, its correct in German. And Bern is in the German language area of Switzerland.
Agree with Paul H for adding Venezia.
The hierarchy between state capital and regional capital looks wrong : for example Zagreb.
And the size of the font is not the same for every state capital : for example Skopje and Beograd.
No state Capital in North Africa, even if it's not in Europe ?
At the end the map looks good. The colours are nice, the med. sea too.
That was my first post, sorry for my English, It will be better, post after post, I hope...

For that matter, Luxemburg should probably be spelled Luxembourg.
