There is more to making a map than styling in ArcMap. It (styling in ArcMap) is a starting point.


I agree.

But, for some us, ArcMap is all we got. You can get some nice, informative maps out of ArcMap if you are careful and have good data.

Just my two cents worth.

This is certainly true -- I've seen lots of excellent maps created by Arc. It's also true that you can create good maps with pencil and paper. To clarify: Neither Arc itself, nor pencil and paper, will create the kind of map that the original posting was asking about -- a high-end, AAA-style street map. That kind of map requires a more complex process.
