Working with GIS Data Adobe CS2 and MAPublisher. I am totally a self taught novice. Looking for free resources to learn the cartography side of GIS mapmaking. NO money and no time to go to school.

A good place to start based on your background might be John Krygier and Denis Wood's book:

Another good book that recently came out is by Cynthia Brewer and called "Designing Better Maps - A Guide for GIS Users." It is however, directed to GIS users and would be a general (conceptual) guide. She also has a new online course ($150) for ArcGIS users, but the first module is free and worthy of a quick look.
There are other disparate sources online too - Tom Patterson has a great online source for info pertaining to base maps and "gourmet cartography."

how experienced are you in CS2 and Mapublisher?
I'm not sure how I would rate myself. Novice I guess. I have been working with it for about 8 months. Have produced a few road maps so far.
