One of these sources might have what you are looking for:
http://www.pecad.fas...datasources.cfm
http://www.worldclim.org/current
http://www.noaa.gov/
Or you can check geoscience australia, but then you will have to purchase it probably.

You might try the Australian Bureau of Meteorology
http://www.bom.gov.a...cts/IDCde.shtml
They will charge for data however, but it's not expensive - cost of supply usually.
Spatial Data in Australia has been freed up of late, with Geoscience Australia leading the way in providing data free of any charges or royalties in most cases.
http://www.ga.gov.au
The commonwealth government , and a few state governments, are following their lead and providing all sorts of data free of charge.
http://data.gov.au
http://data.nsw.gov.au
http://data.vic.gov.au
Hopefully more state governments will come on line and free up their data repositories.
I suspect a lot of this is being driven/copied from what's happening in the UK.
Hope this has been of help.

Hi Craig,
Yes, that would be great if they would free up their data repositories for public access.
I also found some sites such as ASRIS that holds enormous data. Though an interactive maps are accesible, I found it impossible to download as the icon for that function is disabled. I hope they would consider it specially if it will be used for research and academic purposes.
Thanks mate!
