Hello All,

I'm trying to add ball and bar symbols (object) to normal faults (lines) in Adobe Illustrator CS5. I need to make the ball and bar symbol perpendicular to the fault. Is there a way to select the symbol and the line and have Illustrator rotate the symbol so it is perpendicular to the line at a specific point? I believe this can be done in CadTools but I don't own a license.

Thank you.

Rotate the object so it's parallel—which you can tell from the guide that temporarily appears—and then rotate it another 90 degrees.

Thanks Dennis! I knew there was a way to do this manually but thought I was missing something obvious. The map I am currently working on has a few short faults but I have a few other maps with many long faults. I guess I'll have to factor this into my project schedule.

Another possible trick might be to make the symbol into a stroke or a font character, each of which could be attached to the fault line (or a clone of it). I'm a FreeHand guy, though, so I'm not very conversant with exactly how you'd do this in Illustrator.
