Hi,
Is there anyone who has some experience or knowledge on 3D visualization and/or GIS softwares capable of displaying 3D bathymetric data and 3D ship model together? Nearly all GIS softwares work with 3D data in grid format but I especially would like to learn whether it is also possible to put a 3D ship model on bathymetric model and dynamically visualize a ship's navigation by displaying its underwater sections.
Thanks,

Specialized for landscape rendering are Vue or Terragen, they can also import 3D-models in a variety of formats.
Another possibility is to use one of the general rendering packages, like 3ds Max or Modo.

Perhaps GeoZui4D software is of some help here?

Hi Cartogis! Have you seen the GeoVS 3D software for marine navigation etc - www.geovs.com
well worth a look, and the nearest thing to 3D available in the marine navigation market

Thanks for your answers. GeoVS seems the best for this purpose. IVS Fledermaus may be an alternative (www.ivs3d.com).

Hey,
You should maybe also take a look at rhino or maxsurf as they are very good for modeling ship hull forms. I used to do some work in this area and used a combination of these with Manifold GIS for plotting the bathymetric data. Thomas Porathe from a Sweden University also did some work on 3d navigation.
Thanks,
Josie
