How many paper maps do own? Since I was a little kid, I always loved maps and had a good collection by the time I was 18. Now I find my self buying maps I don't even have need for just to look at them. I have boxes of maps from old National Geographics 70s maps to all the new once that hit the market. I have seven atlases and over 10 individual State atlases. Is it just me or are there others like me?
How many

About 3500 folded maps, and about 200 atlases. I will say, though, that the growth of the Internet has relieved my need to scoop up chamber of commerce materials "just in case" and has nearly ended my purchases of topo sheets or paper aerials.

I'm glad I'm not alone. Every time I bring a new map home or one shows up in the mail, my wife just rolls here eyes and says that if we ever run out of heating oil, we can burn my maps for ten years to stay warm. I always tell her that there will be ashes, but not from the maps.

At last count, I'm up to 7 globes, ~30 atlases (thanks to Andreas for sending me that 1:200.000 atlas of Germany and my sister, who gave me two vintage 1960s school atlases for Christmas) and several hundreds of paper maps. Nothing really special, but I'm rather proud of having a 1947 Dutch topo map printed on the back of a surplus WW2 US Army map of Germany.

You ar welcome Hans!
I myself have 2 Globes, 20 Atlases and several hundred sheet maps, mostly russian topo plus a smattering of old Alpenvereinskarten and Swiss Topo Maps.
(Sorry Martin, my cheap source for Alpenvereinskarten has dried out.)

We're huge map geeks
Hard to say how many I have as they are scattered throughout my house and my office at work. I do have a box full of various old maps from National Geo. (including a NG world map from 1936), etc., a number of atlases - historical, state, world, reprints of old atlases, and assorted maps picked up for/while traveling (always get a few at NACIS
), calendars with maps, as well as various other maps scattered about.
As for globes, only a couple of small reproductions of antique globes.
Then there are the books about maps and cartography...

i am slowly picking up maps and imagery of where I live, and also for our cottage (where my dad bought several reproductions of old maps of that neighbourhood). I bought an orienteering map the other day, and I am thinking about ordering imagery from terraserver of this neighborhood where I live. The down side is that our apt building is quite new, built in 2004, so it is not on a lot of material...
