Hi all, I'm looking for FREE data of average gas prices by county for the US, any recent year. There's a Flash map of this data at USA Today
http://www.usatoday....e_map/flash.htm
but the data used for that map ain't free.
I've checked DOE etc but can only find it for state and regional levels. Anyone have a brilliant idea?

The Economist might have this, but likely not for free. I'd also check AAA, I know they keep track of this, but probably just for the 50 states and Canada.

It appears my post got lost...
Anyway, I moved this to the GIS section, I think it fits better here than in Off-topic, because it's about (GIS) data.
There's several Google Maps mashups that track gas prices, but they seem to rely on user submissions. Check the Google Maps Mania blog for the links.

Thanks everyone for the good ideas!
Didn't find the elusive county data, but what is out there seems to all be purchased from the Oil Price Information Service, even the data lookups at AAA. There's plenty of data at that AAA site, thanks Martin! but alas not county tables. The grooviest data is at the LA Times where they bought the OPIS data and then just served it up at their website as part of their article

I checked even the internal AAA site for this and they don't break down the data that fine.

Just take the CA prices and subtract a random amount between $.25 and $1...

Just take the CA prices and subtract a random amount between $.25 and $1...
Actually I've been finding that recently some of the prices in Northern California have been below the national averages. Well at least until the last week when they went up 26 cents.
