I have, in the past, assiduously read the great design journals. Eye has slipped so far since the 90's... Emigre has peetered out (and even stopped publishing now).
The only one I read now days is Dot Dot Dot < http://www.dot-dot-dot.nl/ >
Its not big on tips and tricks by any means, but it is serious stuff. It is about thinking about design. I have been a subscriber since the beginning in 2000.
Subscription is NOT affordable... (<- note: dot dot dot)
The annual subscription rate (two issues (count 'em, two issues)) is 29 EUR including postage.

I am always intrigued by a new forum for design...but at that rate their words will go unread by me...Try 43 EUR (outside Netherlands)...even worse.
