Dear people,

For a research project in Tokyo, we are looking for an solution to get a hold of people's daily activity pattern (where did they go, when and which activity did they join). Are their any (digital) tools available we can use to let a group of respondents keep track of their activity pattern during a day?

We were thinking about a website on which people can submit their activity pattern of that day, but we have no clue at all if there is any software available for this. Or maybe someone knows if there are other (more common used) solutions available?

If someone has suggestions, please let me know!

There are already examples of this being done by tracking cell phone location using built in GPS. MIT has done some of this as well as others...(http://senseable.mit...s/graz/graz.htm)
Hans posted about this probably ~6 months ago.

Probably other ways to do this using small data loggers and blue tooth GPS receivers. But this will only tell you where people are, not what they are doing.

Maybe the NSA would have some suggestions, they seem to be getting quite alot of practice at it here....

You may want to check out OpenStreetMap or GeoSkating which collect tracklogs for various purposes of determining traffic patterns, roads, people movement, etc.

This kind of thing gets discussed on the GeoWanking mailing list often and you could direct your questions there as well.
