Anybody here use NSD extensively? I use it often with the SRTM 90m data for shaded relief maps. Some of my maps are of areas large enough that I'd be better off using the resampled 250m SRTM data instead (https://hc.box.net/shared/1yidaheouv) but I can't get NSD to import either file format. The ASCII elevations crash NSD and when I import the GeoTIFF as a Tif DEM nothing happens.

I've contacted Brett and he's supposed to be getting back to me on the issue but I have a project waiting that I need to get moving on. Hoping someone here has had some success with NSD at these files.

Hello David Medeiros,

Have you tried smaller files or using tiles? The one file (SRTM_SE_250m_ASCII) I downloaded was around 16gb in size once it was unpacked. I have opened much smaller ASCII files with no issue in NSD 5 Pro.

Hi David,

Try importing the .srtm file as a GTOPO30 DEM. This has worked for me in the past.

You'll also need to geo-reference the file after import.

Brett from NSD confirmed the issue is the re sampled SRTM data is just too large for NSD. I don't have nay issue with opening the SRTM data in general, just the larger re sampled tiles. I was trying to avoid a mass download of 18 tiles and then having to open each tile individually and append to the existing selection etc. For this particular map I caved and went ahead and ordered the NSD terrain DVD of Australia since it will cut back onthe effort of stitching together many tiles and I will likely need it again in the future.
