I,ve just started working in the GIS world and have co.me up against a problem which is probably very easy to get round but my inexperence with ARCmap is showing.

If you only want to plot certain elements from an attribute table how do you select them and de-select all others? I have spent hours messing around with the table and excel spread sheets but got nowhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you right-click your layer in ArcMap and go to Properties, you can use the Definition Query tab and write an SQL query to isolate the data you want to show.
