My name is Donovan and I have been working with GIS for almost 5 years now and have always been interested in cartography from the beginning.
My experience is mostly in an environmental and aboriginal land use planning context and recently in local government. Titles I've worked under range from GIS Assistant, Technician, Analyst, Instructor, Technologist... Basically GIS stuff, but when I'm asked what that Is, I usually respond with, "I make maps".
So as a result, most map requests are topographic in nature, but interestingly enough, I was never given the option of starting with templates as my training began in the workplace before I considered anything academic. This gave me free creative insight when it came to map layout and symbology.
I am registering here, without any know how of what I am going to be able to contribute, because whenever I google a cartographic related question, this forum always comes up and my bookmarks are full of them now. I would consider myself a cartogeek, not a professional by any means.
