I have this problem with AI-dwg or PDF files imported into Adobe Illustrator CS3 FROM a GIS workstation (don't remember which one). All the text that is not on a curve is being imported perfectely. Curved text on the other hand is imported as single letters. It will take me a few days to convert those in a single line street name for example. Is there an option in Adobe Illustrator to REUNITE those letters in a single word?

Attached is a screen shot of the map I am working on in illustrator. You will notice that the curved text is made up of individual letters. Is there an option that will let you reattached the letter automatically?

Nice question. and the answer seems to be simple ;-)

In Illustrator CS4:
Use the black Selection Tool: Select the single-letter-elements.
Copy.
Use the Text Tool: Click to make a new insertion point.
Paste.

This works with new-made single-letter-elements.
Does it also work with your legacy text?

Maybe the script by John Wundes "Join Text Frames could do the trick. It's meant to merge together multiple lines of texts, but it could work. I don't know how it will react with curved text though, but It's worth a try...
