I just saw this and was interested in its development...

I just checked and was able to get Windows new Virtual Earth (http://local.live.com/ ) to work on my Mac using Firefox.
Hooray! Global browsing on a Mac.
Isn't it a little ironic that Microsoft serves-up the first geobrowser (that is a contender to Google Earth)?

I may be nitpicky here, but I would consider Local Live and Google Local (previously Google Maps) to be comparable products since they are both browser-driven applications. Google Earth and Nasa Worldwind are comparable since they both are stand-alone applications with the option to add custom data. Currently, Microsoft isn't offering anything like those two.
FWIW, Google Maps is working on Macs.

You are absolutely right, Hans. Google Earth and Worldwind are different and, alas do not work on Macs.
I think I tricked myself into thinking Local Live was more than what it is, due to the browsable oblique views.
The screenshot from Appleinsider about GE for Macs looks promising. I wonder if it will be optimized for Quartz - or if quartz deson't make any difference and it's just up to the video card.
In any case it looks like the wait will be over soon.

It's here! I've spent the evening playing with it on my Mac. Very cool!
I'm not clear whether it's supposed to be floating around, but those interested should do a little search in the Mac forum of dealmac.com
