I have several .xml file that I would like to import to ArcGIS. I have 10. desktop but if you have any ideas, tips, or tricks I would like to hear them. The point locations are defined by point x=... point y = ...., I think there is a way for esri to acknowledge for visualization this data (files).
I will apreciate all help.

Is there any way you can transform the files to a flat database table? Using xsl/html or excel maybe? Import the files into Access? Parse the files with a custom script (like python) and output csv?

Do you have the data interop extension? There is a XML import option there that you could try.

One thing to keep in mind is that xml is not one file format, it is just a general framework. It can have any kind of layout, including non-flat ones (e.g. hierarchies in the file).

Is this a gml or kml file? (or xhtml?)

My first try would be to try to examine the file and maybe open it in excel.

Hi,

Try converting it into an excel file. Than simply:

1. Open ArcMap
2. Tools menu --> Add XY data --> open the sheet of the excel file --> define the x and the y field --> produce the point features
